Beer 29 – Jolly Pumpkin Oro De Calabaza

Style: Bière de Garde

What makes this beer different: Super sour, but in a good “Sour Patch Kids” kind of way.

Will I be drinking this again: Without a doubt

Grade: A+

12/7/2009: Took a quick visit to babelfish to see what oro de calabaza meant in english, and it translates to “Pumpkin gold.” Good name for this beer because it might be my favorite out of the 29 beers I have tried so far. I know I have a good beer when I am still thinking about it the next day.

At first when you open the beer it honestly smells like overly ripe fruit to the point its almost rotten. First impressions aren’t always accurate though because the taste of this stuff isn’t even close to anything I have ever tried. Sour is without a doubt the first word that comes to mind, but its the kind of sour you want. Similar to when you pop open a bag of sour patch kids (although the flavor isn’t as fruity). The strongest tastes are lemon, malt, and what I describe as a grainy taste. If you run across this beer, GET IT.
