Beer 379/365 – Mikkeller Beer Geek Bacon (Bacon)

Mikkeller Rauch Geek Breakfast

Style: Imperial Stout

ABV: 7.5%

Purchased at: Vintage Estate – Boardman OH

What makes this beer different: The meatiest tasting beer EVER. Never thought I would use the word meat to describe a beer.

Will I be drinking this again: Probably not, but I’ll bet it would be great for marinating a steak.

Grade: B

2/24/2011: Did I REALLY want to try this beer? No… But I bought it purely because I was extremely curious. I’ve had ‘smoked’ and ‘rauch’ beers before, but never had one that was bold enough to use bacon in the name. I split this bottle with my buddy Donnie who is also a stout lover.

After pouring the beer, the first smell you get is similar to how your clothes smell the day after you sit around a campfire. Oh that is, if your clothes were also dipped in a meat vat. Also a bit of chocolate in the mix. The flavor at first is an A. It literally was like drinking chocolate covered bacon. Which by the way if you have never tried chocolate covered bacon, I feel that you need to because it encompasses everything that makes America great. Back to the beer, there is also some bittersweet chocolate in the mix, as well as a hint of licorice. The meaty flavor wears on you after a bit though. To be honest I had a really hard time finishing the whole thing. Mouthfeel was slick, and just above average. One of the most unique beers I have ever sampled, but will probably not be drinking this again in the future.

Picture of the day: Best halloween costume EVER.

Beer 378/365 – Oakshire Overcast Espresso Stout

Oakshire Overcast Espresso Stout

What makes this beer different: Very drinkable, one of the more strongest coffee flavored “regular stouts” I have ever had.

Will I be drinking this again: Would like to but its not distributed here.

Grade: A-

2/9/2011: Wow has it really been over two weeks since I updated? I really have to get back to updating this site. I have about 30 beers backlogged, but my 8-5 job has been insanely busy lately. I have been drinking a lot of good new beer lately though. I feel as if now that I am not obligated to drink a beer everyday, that I actually enjoy drinking beer much much more.

The nose is full of roasted malt, and surprise surprise a shot of espresso. The flavor isn’t overly complex, but much better than I had expected. An even balance of roasted malts, and espresso; neither overpower the other. Also has a bit of a sweet kick to it (maybe a play on sugar in coffee?). Again not too complex, but a very enjoyable drink. Medium body and well carbonated for the style. Pretty good stuff!!

Picture of the day: It pains me to do this as a Steeler fan, but this comic is pretty funny.
