Beer 386/365 – Victory V-Twelve

Victory V Twelve

Style: Quadruple

ABV: 12.0%

Purchased at: Vintage Estate – Boardman OH

What makes this beer different: Possibly the best domestic brewed Belgian style beer I’ve ever had. Also very affordable at $8 for the big bottle.

Will I be drinking this again: Yes I need to pick up a couple bottles for the basement.

Grade: A

4/4/2011: In case you missed my memo last week I will be updating the site every Monday and Thursday. I realized that arbitrarily updating meant I was updating bi-weekly at best. Anyways sorry for the blurry picture. I took 3 of this beer, and didn’t realize they all turned out like crap. Oh well can’t hit a home run every time.

I’ve heard great things about this beer and finally found some out at Vintage Estate. The smell is mostly orchard fruit (pears, apples), and actually a good bit of booze. Here is hoping the alcohol doesn’t come through in the taste. The flavor is great; apples, some citrus (maybe orange?), clove, rock candi, and some kind of sweet spice which I’m going to guess is cinnamon. Tons of great flavor, and the alcohol is masked very well. This beer excels where most American brewed Belgians fail; the creamy mouthfeel. Great mouthfeel to this beer, and almost exactly like a true Belgian. Heavy but smooth at the same time. Would love to know what kind of yeast strain they used on this. If you haven’t tried this yet do yourself a favor and hunt down a bottle.
