Beer 145/365 – Cuvée Van De Keizer Rood

Style: Belgian Strong Pale Ale

ABV: 10.0%

Purchased at: Joe Canals – Bellmawr NJ

What makes this beer different: Hides the alcohol pretty well for 10%

Will I be drinking this again: Hard to find so probably not. But well priced for such a solid beer

Grade: A-

4/2/2010: Was excited to find this bad boy when I was in the dirty jerz for the AC beer show. I have the Cuvee blue from 2009 sitting in the basement, but haven’t tried this one until now.

The smell is similar to your typical BSPA, spicy, and yeasty. The taste has a lot of spice (black pepper maybe?), some caramel malts, and a bit sweeter than your average BSPA. Mouthfeel is very nice, but not nearly as carbonated as Duvel for instance, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The alcohol isn’t masked super well, but sometimes I kind of like a punch of alcohol. A lot of different flavors banging around in this one, all of which I cannot pick out exactly, but still very solid. If the flavors were a bit more subdued I might have given this an A.

Picture of the day: So I was raised catholic and it hurts me to post this but, how true it is.
